what car?

If you would like to see a PDF file of the complete car list then please CLICK HERE (it is not complete but will give you a good idea of which dog crate will fit your car). This list has been produced in good faith, and whilst we can guarantee that our crates will fit the car models which we have fitted personally, you should ensure that the dog cage is the correct size for your car before purchasing.

We will also be producing separate pages for each car manufacturer, to include sizes which will fit your car, information about how long the crate can be adjusted to (where we have this information) and pictures of the crates which will fit your car (where possible with dogs in situ to give you a better picture. We have started with a few here:

Audi Mercedes
BMW Mitsubishi
Chevrolet Nissan
Citroen Peugeot
Fiat Range Rover
Ford Renault
Honda Saab
Hyundai Subaru
Isuzu Suzuki
Jeep Vauxhall (Opel)
Kia Toyota
Land Rover Volkswagen
Lexus
Mazda Volvo
We update these pages regularly. Latest pix: Volvo XC70 (old and new), Vauxhall Zafira, Mitsubishi L200, Chevrolet Captiva, Kia Sportage 2010; Citroen Berlingo Multispace & C4 Grand Picasso; Range Rover Sport; Land Rover Discovery. Have a look to see pictures of what a dog cage will look like in your car if it's listed.

Makes of car that the dog crates for cars will fit include Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroen, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Saab, Skoda, Subaru, Toyota, Vauxhall, Volkswagen (VW) and Volvo. Not all models of car will fit the crate, and sometimes that even changes within the model itself - for example the Kia Sportage 2005 doesn't fit the medium double crate whereas the Sportage 2007 will do!

If you wish to buy a dog cage we would be happy to go to a local dealership to measure your chosen car if it's not on the list. That's easy with new cars - not so easy with older models. However we can do a check on local second hand cars if they're available to view.

Detailed below are instructions for measuring your vehicle to check which crate (if any) would fit.

Instructions measuring vehicle for safedog crates:

  • Measure in metric (we've included approximate imperial measurements as many of us still think in 'old money')
  • Check to see if your car has a sill in the back by the boot door. If the sill is taller than about 2 centimetres, you might have to put something below the crate, in order for the doors to be able to be opened.
  • The floor in the car should be even for the crate to stand well.
  • Measure the widest point of the luggage boot which is possible to put the crate in. The boot door or between the wheel arches are usually the narrowest point.
  • Then measure the length of the luggage boot floor. Mind that the boot door might be a little rounded. In that case, measure the shortest point, i.e. not in the middle of the car.
  • The slope of the front and back of the crate is approximately the same as the slope of the backseat. The roof of the crate is about 15 centimetres narrower than the floor.
  • Maximum height is measured from the floor to the lowest point of the opening of the boot.
